Do You Have A Roof Warranty? If Not, Here's Why You Should

Stephen Bis • Jun 10, 2021
A roof is one of the most expensive construction areas on a property, and ironically most homeowners have no idea the details surrounding the warranty. If they even have one, that is covering their roof. It is essential to have in place to protect homeowners from things over which they have little to no control over.

In the event of a manufacturer's defect or poor installation, a roof warranty is a legal agreement between the roofing company and homeowner that a new roof, if needed, would be covered free of charge.

A major headache of a situation is when a new roof is installed only to discover that the roofing materials are defective. In most cases, this is not the fault of the actual roofing company, and if there is a proper manufacturer's warranty in place, then the manufacturer should cover the total cost of a new roof.

If there are no problems with the actual materials, the next thing you want to be covered is the potential for workmanship errors. The reality is that many roof repairs and replacements are due to poor installation. So the homeowner must ensure they have a roof warranty that covers defects from the manufacturer and poor installation from the roofing company that did the job.

At the end of the day, it's also peace of mind. As stated above, a new roof is expensive, even if you use the cheapest possible roofing materials. There is nothing worse than having to drain your savings because you NEED a new roof and have no warranty in place, no financing available, and no insurance claim to cover the cost!
